Arts & Craft Workshops

We are pleased to announce Gwynfryn Chapel will host the Arts & Craft Workshops during this years Gwledd Conwy Feast. With a diverse range including cyanotype, scanography, printing, illustration, origami, drawing, stenciling, paper cutting, and even tailoring, with a man who has dressed the stars, this is a chance to unleash your own creativity!

SATURDAY Arts & Craft Workshops:
10am – 11am Scanography: Photographer Richard Williams shows how to transform your everyday scanner from a boring photocopier into a camera. This brand new artform uses simple materials found in the home to create amazing abstract images!
10am to 11am  Illustration: Ellie Strigner is an illustrator and animator In this workshop, we will be creating mixed-media linocuts using a technique called Chine-collé, layering texture and colour to create bold illustrations on the theme of flavour / blas
11.30am – 12.30pm Cyanotype: Discover the process behind the term ‘blueprint’ in this workshop with artist Sian Hughes.  Using prepared paper and simple materials the results are often unexpected and quite beautiful
1.30pm – 2.30pm Paper cutting. Explore the fascinating process of turning a simple sheet of paper into a striking piece of art. Chloe Needham will demonstrate the skills involved in paper cutting to achieve a range of styles, from bold playful designs to those with an intricate lace like quality.
1.30pm- 2.30pm Lantern making: Create a magic lantern with Ruth Bitowski, using flexible willow sticks and tissue paper. Each lantern is shaped into a simple 3D form  and covered in wet strength tissue paper that diffuses the light.  Add colour and pattern using inks and/or cut out paper shapes.
3pm – 4pm: Relief Printmaking: Join Barry Morris from Oriel MOSTYN using a variety of different relief printmaking techniques to create prints exploring colour, pattern and texture.  We will be making our printing blocks and printing from them by hand.
3pm- 4pm Origami Hannah Bitowski is a Welsh artist working and living in Liverpool. This workshop will allow participants to learn the craft of origami, creating intricate geometric paper ornaments using the ancient Japanese skill of paper folding.

1.30 – 2.30 Drawing: Oriel MOSTYN’s Barry Morris leads a workshop in drawing with colour. Suitable for all ages and abilities, we will be using oil pastels and other media to create colourful recreations of ordinary objects.
3pm-4pm: Master tailor  Patrick Joseph who created clothes for the likes of Bjork, Cheryl Cole and Status Quo will demonstrate techniques used in tailoring and textile development, manipulating a pre-worn shirt using a single needle and thread, as a fast fashion exercise in re-purposing unwanted clothes.
3pm -4pm Screen printing: Tara Dean’s practice revolves around printmaking and illustration. She gives an introduction to Screen Printing, experimenting with cut or torn paper stencils.  Explore making a design and creating a card to take away for someone special!

Potter Bev Bell-Hughes will also run drop-in pot making sessions.
For £5 you get to make a pot with a master potter.
